Nativity Plays 2005

This year's Christmas play, presented and performed by the Sunday School and the Sunday Clubs, was set in two stages.

The first stage, presented by the Sunday Clubs, introduced us to three (stroppy) trainee angels:

  • Annie McTree (Freya Hardman),

  • Danni McTree (Beth Redmond),

  • Tranni McTree (Robyn Britton).

The last one was unwittingly named by the elders of the church much to the delight and laughter of the kids.

To earn their wings, they had to accomplish three very different tasks down on planet earth.  The tasks assigned to the three angels were chosen by the Voice of God (Chris Britton) and delegated to them by Senior A* Angel Luke Skywalker (obviously on leave from other galactic duties) played by Luke Hughes.

The unenviable jobs given to the angels were to try to sort out such major and, sadly, everyday problems we all experience such as greed, selfishness, rudeness and lack of respect by both young and old.

Each different scenario, with its up to date references, was acted out extremely well.  It was very clear and concise and although there was a comical side to it, the children still managed to put across the importance of the message to be conveyed.  Congratulations to all the members of the Sunday Clubs who took part either as actors or narrators.

The second stage was performed by the Sunday School children who re-created the story of the Birth of Christ.  They were dressed in traditional costumes.  Even the crowns of the three kings (I suspect borrowed from His Majesty Ronald McDonald) looked real with all the gems glittering in the spotlights.  All the children performed their individual roles extremely well.  Showing no sign of nerves, they performed on cue and without fault.

In between each different scene, we sang carols and hymns which, combined with the atmospheric lighting in church, were at times extremely moving.

Yet again, another fine performance by both Sunday School and Sunday Club children.  A big thank-you to everyone who helped to produce this year's performance, both on and behind the scenes.
