Soldiers of Fortune - Mongol Rally 2009

After 4 solid weeks of driving across some of the largest, most beautiful, desolate and bumpy landscapes in the world we finally managed to make it to Ulanbataar, the capital city of Mongolia, on 15th August.  We were just in time for the finish-line party and were welcomed by: the sights and sounds of a bustling city, local musicians performing for us, lots of other teams we had met along the way and a much-needed beer!

Our beautiful green Skoda Felicia, named Alice, did us really proud.  Despite many mechanical issues, and several anxious days spent with various mechanics, she hobbled through to the end on the very last of her nine lives.  Despite her condition she will still be of great use out there, where she will be sold or scrapped to raise additional money for the charities we're supporting.  We also left her piled high with all of our camping and cooking equipment, as well as food and clothing which will be distributed among the projects that are being run to help the homeless and neglected in Mongolia.

We'd like to thank everyone at St Margaret's who has sponsored us and supported us along the way.  It has been the adventure of a lifetime for us, and hopefully the money raised by us and all the other teams will make a massive difference to the lives of others.  At last count we have raised £2,900, which is well over twice the target set by the rally organisers, and a great display of the generosity of our supporters.  When you take into account more than 500 other teams taking part, you can see just how much impact the Mongol Rally can have for these communities.
