Ladies' Guild Meeting - August 2011 For our August meeting, 28 ladies went to Putteridge Bury for afternoon tea. The weather was kind to us after a 1:00 pm thunderstorm in Barton, which fortunately seemed to have missed Luton. We entered this very grand old Manor House, which now belongs to the University of Bedfordshire, and were shown into a beautiful light airy room, where four tables were set for tea. From the windows we had a lovely view right over the grounds and gardens. A room to the side offered a small bar where some of us enjoyed a nice refreshing glass of Pimms. At 3:00 pm tea arrived, each table had three plates of assorted finger sandwiches, two plates of scones (one plain with cream and one with fruit and a bowl of jam). Then followed two, two-tier cake stands, with the most wonderful selection of dainty cakes: meringues, shoe pastries, little fruit tarts and many more. It did seem a shame to disturb anything but we did and then the teapot kept coming round every few minutes. We had a very enjoyable afternoon. Many ladies left clutching ‘doggy bags’ to enjoy later at home or to share with their family. |
